ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Adverse Childhood Experiences movement

The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) movement is all about trying to help kids who have had rough things happen to them when they were young. This could be things like having parents who fight a lot, or who aren't around very much, or who use drugs or alcohol. It could also be things like being hurt or abused by someone, or having someone in the family die, or having to move around a lot.

All of these tough things can actually change how the brain and body work, and make it harder for kids to do well in school, have good relationships with other people, and even stay healthy. The ACE movement is trying to raise awareness about these issues so that people can help prevent them, and also try to help kids who have already gone through tough things.

The good news is that there are things that can help kids who have had these experiences. Things like having adults who care about them, learning how to deal with feelings in healthy ways, and finding ways to be happy and have fun can make a big difference. With the help of the ACE movement, we can all work together to make sure that kids have the best chance possible to grow up healthy and happy.
