Aerial root

Aerial roots are a type of plant root that grows above the ground. It looks like a big thick rope coming out of the ground that sometimes looks like it's growing straight up. These unusual roots help the plant in a few different ways. They provide extra support for the plant so it doesn't fall over, absorb water from the air, and help the plant get oxygen from the air too. Plants that have aerial roots would include mangroves and banyan trees.
