African Americans in Louisiana

African Americans in Louisiana are people who have origins in Africa and who live in the U.S. state of Louisiana. Many African Americans living in Louisiana trace their roots back to people brought to the state as slaves in the 1700s and 1800s, when people were taken from Africa and brought to America against their will in slave ships. Today, African Americans in the state make up around 32% of the population, making them the largest racial group in Louisiana. African Americans in Louisiana have faced a lot of challenges in the past, such as being treated unfairly, not having access to education and jobs, and not being allowed to vote. In recent years, law changes have given African Americans and other minorities many of the same rights and privileges as white people, yet there is still more work to do to make sure everyone in Louisiana is treated fairly.
