African Independence

African independence means that African countries are no longer under the rule of another country. This means that each African country is independent and makes their own decisions about things like laws, taxes, and government leaders. In the past, many African countries were colonies of European countries, so they weren't in control of their own lives. After many years of fighting and protesting, some African countries gained independence in the 1900s and are now able to make their own decisions.
