African Nationalism is a movement to increase the political, economic, and social power of African people. People in Africa wanted to be in control of their own destiny and wanted to be able to choose the leaders and laws that would govern the country. They wanted to end the colonization by European countries and gain independence. People worked together to fight for freedom and equial rights and achieved many successes. African Nationalism also helped people create a sense of pride and connection to African culture and history. This helped Africans adopt shared values and goals as well as helping them find strength in their identity as a group. People became United in order to take control of their own future and create a better life for all Africans.
