ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Afterfeast

Okay kiddo, you know how after a party there's always leftover cake and snacks? Well, after a special celebration called a feast in the Orthodox Church, there's also something called an afterfeast!

During the feast, we celebrate a special holy day, like Christmas or Easter, by going to church, singing, and praying. It's like a big party for Jesus and all the saints!

But after the feast is over, we still want to keep celebrating and remembering the special day. So, for a few days after the feast, we have an afterfeast!

During the afterfeast, we still go to church and sing special songs, but we also get to eat special foods that remind us of the feast. It's like having a mini-celebration after the big celebration!

We also use this time to learn more about the holy day we just celebrated and how it's important for our faith.

So that's what an afterfeast is, a time to keep the celebration going and remember the special day we just had!
