Agriculture in ancient Rome

Agriculture in Ancient Rome was a major part of daily life. The Ancient Romans used different methods to grow and harvest their crops. Ancient Romans used agricultural tools such as plows, rakes, sickles, shovels and hoes to cultivate the soil and prepare it for planting. They also used animal-drawn carts to transport crops and goods. Fertilizers and irrigation systems were used to increase crop yield. Ancient Romans also bred animals such as cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats for meat and dairy products. Farming was done mainly by slaves or free farmers. The Roman Empire had large estates called latifundia that were worked by slaves and provided food for the army and the people of Rome.
