ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Aircraft seat map

An aircraft seat map is like a map of a playground, but for people who are traveling on an airplane. Just like how there are different spots to play and activities to do in a playground, there are different seats with different features on an airplane.

When you want to go on an airplane, you have to buy a ticket. When you buy your ticket, you will see a picture of the airplane you're going to be on, and you'll see all of the seats that are available. Each seat has its own "home" on the airplane, which is where it lives.

The seat map shows you where each seat is located and what it looks like. It will also show you what features come with each seat, such as a window to look out of or extra legroom for taller people.

When you look at the map, you'll notice that the seats are arranged in rows. Each row has a number, and each seat within that row has a letter. For example, you might be sitting in seat 3A, which means you're in the third row and in the first seat on the left-hand side.

Some airlines give different names to their seats, such as "economy," "business class," or "first class." These names usually tell you what features you'll get with your seat, like how much space you'll have or whether you'll get a fancy meal.

Once you've picked out your seat, you can relax and enjoy your flight, knowing exactly where you'll be sitting and what to expect from your seat.
