Alania is a historical region in the northern Caucasus, which is located between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. It roughly corresponds to the modern-day Republic of North Ossetia-Alania in Russia.
A long, long time ago, before there were countries like we have today, there were lots of different groups of people who lived in different places. Some of these groups of people lived in the area we now call Alania.
The people who lived in Alania had their own language, customs, and beliefs. They had many different tribes and clans, who often fought with each other for power and resources. But sometimes they also worked together to defend themselves against outside threats.
Over time, different empires and civilizations came and went in the region, including the Huns, the Khazars, and the Mongols. But the Alanian people continued to live in the area, adapting and changing over time.
Today, the region of Alania is a part of Russia, and the people who live there are mostly of Ossetian descent. They still have their own language and culture, and they are proud of their history as a distinct people in the Caucasus region.
