Alfred the Great

Alfred the Great was a king who lived a long, long time ago in a place called England. He was very important because he made a lot of good changes that helped his people.

Alfred was born in the year 849 and he became king when he was just a young teenager. His kingdom was always under attack by other people who wanted to take it over, and Alfred knew he had to do something about it.

So, he studied really hard and learned how to be a good leader and a great warrior. He even went out to fight in battles himself!

But Alfred didn't just care about fighting. He also cared about making life better for his people. He knew that his kingdom needed more schools, so he started building them. He also wanted more people to know how to read and write, so he made sure there were plenty of books for them to learn from.

Alfred even made new laws that protected the poor and the weak. He thought everyone should be treated fairly, no matter who they were.

People loved Alfred because they knew he cared about them. He ruled for a long time and when he died, he was remembered as one of the greatest kings in history.
