ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Alice King Chatham

Alice King Chatham was a very important lady who worked really hard to help make the world a better place. She was born a long time ago in 1908 and lived until 2002. That means she was very, very old when she died.

When Alice was young, there were some big problems in the world. Some people didn't get treated fairly just because of the color of their skin. This was called racism, and it wasn't fair. Alice wanted to do something about it.

Alice went to college and learned a lot of things, especially about how to be a nurse. She decided to use her knowledge to help people who weren't getting the healthcare they needed. She moved to Africa, which is a really big continent on the other side of the world from where she grew up. There, she helped people who were sick, and even helped deliver babies.

Alice didn't just help people who were sick. She also wanted to help people who didn't always have a voice. Back then, many animals were being killed and their homes were being destroyed, and there weren't many people who tried to stop it. Alice cared a lot about these animals, so she worked with others to create parks and wildlife reserves to protect them.

Alice did a lot of amazing things, and she inspired many people to make the world a better place too. Even though she's not with us anymore, her legacy lives on and continues to inspire others to make a positive impact.
