ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

All horses are the same color

Ok kiddo, so have you ever seen a bunch of horses in a field before? Yeah? Well, even though they might look different, like some are brown, some are black, and some are white, they are all actually the same color when you think about it.

You see, all horses have something called "pigment" in their skin and hair that gives them their color. Some horses have a lot of pigment, which makes them darker, and some have less pigment, which makes them lighter.

But no matter how much or how little pigment a horse has, it is still just the same color - "horse color"! It's kind of like how all people have skin color, but some are darker or lighter than others. But we are all still just people, right?

So even though it might look like there are a lot of different colors of horses, they all share the same basic horse color. Pretty cool, huh?
