Allele frequency

Think of each person like a box with two compartments. Inside each compartment, you can find different shapes or letters. They are called alleles. Now, think of a group of people. The alleles inside these boxes can be different. The alleles that are found more often in the group are called common alleles, and the alleles that are less often found are called uncommon alleles. The allele frequency tells you how often each allele is found in the population.
