ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Alloy

Alloy is when two or more different types of metal get mixed together to make a new kind of metal that is different from the original ones. It's sort of like mixing colors together with paint to make a new color.

For example, if you take iron and add a little bit of carbon to it, you can make a new type of metal called steel that is stronger than iron. So, an alloy is just a special mixture made from metals.

It's like making a cake, where you take flour, sugar, eggs, and butter and mix them together to make a new thing - a cake! When you mix metals together to make an alloy, you get a new thing that has some of the properties of the original metals, but also has new properties of its own.

This is why alloys are really useful in lots of different industries - they can be stronger, more flexible, more heat-resistant, or more corrosion-resistant than the original metals. People use alloys to make things like airplane parts, car engines, and dental fillings, just to name a few examples.
