Almond paste is a delicious and sweet substance made from ground almonds and sugar. Just like how you mix flour and sugar together to make cookie dough, people mix ground almonds and sugar together to make almond paste.
To make almond paste, grown-ups start with whole almonds that they take the skin off of. Then, they grind the almonds up into small pieces, almost like sand. They mix in sugar and a few other ingredients like water or egg whites (which are safe to eat, even though they may sound strange) to create a smooth and malleable paste.
This paste is then used in tons of different ways. Sometimes grown-ups will shape it into cute little figures or place it between layers of cakes and pastries. It can also be mixed into other baked treats like muffins or cookies to add an extra almond flavor.
But be careful! Almond paste is really sweet, so it's usually enjoyed in small amounts. Too much can make your tummy hurt or cause a sugar rush!
