ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Alpha-numeric grid

Okay kiddo, have you ever played a game where you had to find words by connecting letters in a grid? Well, that grid is called an alpha-numeric grid.

It looks like a big square with lots of little squares inside. Each little square has a letter in it from the alphabet (A, B, C, etc.) and a number (1, 2, 3, etc.).

The letters go across the grid like this: A, B, C, D, E... and so on. The numbers go down the grid like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... and so on.

So when you play your word game and you find a word like "CAT", you would look for the letter "C" in the column that starts with "A" and the row that starts with "1". Then you would look for the letter "A" in the column that starts with "B" and the row that starts with "1". Finally, you would look for the letter "T" in the column that starts with "C" and the row that starts with "1". If you connect those three squares, you have found the word "CAT"!

That's how an alpha-numeric grid works. It helps you find things by giving you letters and numbers to guide you. Cool, huh?
