Altruism (ethics)

Altruism is when someone helps someone else even if they don't get anything out of it. It's different from being nice, because nice people usually help because they want something in return. Altruism means helping someone just because it's the right thing to do. It's an important ethical value because it shows that you care about other people, even if you don't have to.
