Amber is a pretty kind of rock that looks like it's made out of honey or gold. People have been finding it on beaches and in the ground for a really, really long time.
But the thing that makes amber special is that sometimes there are little bugs trapped inside of it. Bugs like ants, spiders, and flies. They got caught in the sticky gooey resin from trees that hardened over time to become amber, sort of like a insect in candy.
Scientists love to study amber because it can give us clues about what life was like a long, long time ago. They can look at the bugs that are trapped inside and figure out what kind of insects were around at the time when the amber was made.
People also think amber is pretty, so they put it in jewelry like necklaces and earrings. It's really cool to think that you might be wearing a bug that's millions of years old!
