American biofuels are fuels that are made from plants grown in the United States. These biofuels include ethanol and biodiesel, which are both types of fuels that can be used instead of gasoline to power our cars and trucks. Ethanol is a type of alcohol made from corn or other kinds of plants, and biodiesel is a type of oil made from vegetable oil or animal fats. By using these biofuels, we are less dependent on fuels that come from other countries which means we can save energy and money. The United States government has created a program called the Renewable Fuel Standard where it has set a minimum amount of biofuel that must be used in the United States each year. This program is helping to increase the use of American-made biofuels.
