American Name Society

The American Name Society (ANS) is a group of people who study names, how they are used, and how they affect people and culture. The ANS was founded in 1951 and has members from all over the world. They are committed to understanding the power of names by studying language, history, culture, and psychology. The group shares and publishes research in biennial conferences and in other journals and books. They also work with teachers and educators to help spread knowledge and understanding of names in the classroom.
