ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

American neo-nationalism

Okay kiddo, so you know how you're proud to be an American, right? Well, some grown-ups feel that way too, but they take it to another level. They believe that America is the best country in the world, and that everyone should be loyal to it above anything else. This is called nationalism.

But there's another thing called neo-nationalism, which is a newer version of that idea. It's all about being really protective of America and its identity, and wanting to keep it just the way it is. Neo-nationalists might not like people who are different from them, like people who look different or come from different countries, and they might think that those people are a threat to America.

Some people who follow neo-nationalism might even believe that America used to be better, and they want to go back to the way things used to be. They think that things like immigration or globalization are making America weaker, and they want to stop those things from happening.

So, in a way, neo-nationalism is like loving America so much that you don't want it to change, and you might not like people who are different from you. But that's not very nice, is it? Remember, it's important to respect everyone, no matter where they come from or what they look like.
