Americanization of Native Americans is when the US government tries to get Native Americans to adopt American customs, language, and values. This can happen many different ways. One way is when the US government forces Native American children to go to schools where they are taught to speak English, dress like Americans, and follow American customs. This can also happen through having Native Americans live on reservations where they are only allowed to practice their culture and speak their language in certain, limited circumstances. Americanizing Native Americans means that the US government is trying to make them more like Americans, rather than promoting and preserving their own traditional cultures, values, and languages.
