OK, kiddo! AMU Nowruz is a fun word that stands for something we celebrate on March 21st every year - it's the Persian New Year!
Now, I know what you're thinking - "What's Persian?" Well, Persian is another word for "Iranian," which means "someone who comes from Iran." And Iran is a country that's far away from us, on the other side of the world!
So, back to Nowruz. Nowruz is a very old holiday that has been celebrated for over 3000 years - that's older than your parents or even your grandparents! It's a time when people get together with their families and friends and celebrate the coming of spring.
Now, what's so special about spring? Well, in the winter, everything is cold and gray and dead-looking. But in the spring, the flowers start to bloom, the birds start to chirp, and the sun starts to shine more often! And that's cause for celebration, don't you think?
During the AMU Nowruz celebration, people do all kinds of fun things. They clean their houses from top to bottom to get rid of all the winter dust, they decorate their homes with flowers and colorful decorations, and they prepare special foods and sweets to share with their loved ones.
One of the most important parts of Nowruz is setting up a special table called "Haft Seen," which means "Seven S's." On this table, you'll find seven things that start with the Persian letter "S," such as apples, garlic, coins, and candles. Each item has a special meaning, and together, they represent good luck and prosperity for the new year.
So, that's what AMU Nowruz is all about - celebrating the start of a new year and the coming of spring with your loved ones, good food, and lots of colorful decorations!
