Anencephaly

Anencephaly is a medical condition that affects babies while they are growing in their mommy's belly. When a baby is growing inside the mommy, its brain develops first and then the skull grows to protect the brain. However, in babies with anencephaly, the front part of their brain does not develop properly, which means that they are born without a large part of their brain and skull.

The baby with anencephaly may look normal from the outside, but they have a very small brain that may not function properly. Unfortunately, babies with anencephaly typically don't live very long after they are born.

Doctors do not yet know what causes anencephaly, but it may be linked to certain nutrients that the mommy did not get during pregnancy or genetics. It is important for mommies to eat healthy foods and take good care of themselves during pregnancy to help prevent this condition.
