ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Angiogenesis

Angiogenesis is like building new roads for tiny little cars in our body called blood vessels. These little cars, also known as blood vessels, carry important things like oxygen and nutrients to the different parts of our body.

Sometimes, when we get a cut or injure ourselves, our body needs to build new roads to help heal the hurt. Angiogenesis is the way our body builds these new roads so the little cars can help deliver a bunch of things, like proteins and cells that are helpful for healing.

Sometimes, angiogenesis can also happen in places where we don't need extra blood vessels, like when someone gets sick. In these cases, the extra blood vessels can cause more damage, so doctors try to stop angiogenesis from happening when it's not necessary.
