ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Angioplasty

Angioplasty is when doctors use special tools to fix a person's heart. It's like when you're playing with play dough and you squish it to make it flat. Doctors do that with the tubes that carry blood to the heart.

Sometimes these tubes, called arteries, get really bumpy inside and it's hard for the blood to flow through. It's kind of like trying to walk on a bumpy road. This can make people feel bad or even hurt their heart.

So doctors use special tools to go up inside the person's body and fix the bumps. They use a tiny balloon to squish the bumps flat and make the tube smooth again. It's like blowing up a balloon and then letting the air out really fast. The doctors then put a tiny metal tube called a "stent" inside the tube to keep it open and smooth.

Once the tube is smooth again, the blood can flow through it easily. This helps the person feel better and keep their heart healthy.
