Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation

Okay, so imagine you and your friends were playing with a toy car that belonged to someone else. Then, one of your friends decided that they wanted the toy car for themselves and took it away without asking the owner for permission.

Similarly, the Russian Federation decided that they wanted to have control over Crimea, which used to belong to Ukraine. They took over the land and started treating it like it was their own, even though they didn't ask Ukraine if it was okay.

This made a lot of people upset because it wasn't fair for Russia to just take over another country's land without asking first. Imagine if someone took over your backyard without asking you!

People from all over the world started talking about what Russia did and some countries even decided to punish Russia by not letting them participate in certain things like big meetings or events.

So, in summary, Russia took over Crimea without asking Ukraine first and it caused a lot of controversy and upset many people.
