Antioxidant

Have you ever left a cut apple out on the counter for too long and watched it turn brown? That's because the oxygen in the air reacts with the apple and causes it to change color. The same thing can happen inside our bodies. When we breathe, our cells use oxygen to create energy, but sometimes the oxygen can create little molecules called free radicals. These molecules can damage our cells and cause them to age faster or get sick.

Antioxidants are like little superheroes that fight against these free radicals. They help to protect our cells and keep them healthy. Antioxidants come from different foods, like fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Some examples of antioxidants are vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, and selenium.

So just like how eating an apple can help protect it from turning brown, eating foods high in antioxidants can help protect our bodies from damage caused by free radicals. It's important to eat a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables to make sure we get enough antioxidants in our diet.
