Antireligious campaigns in China

Antireligious campaigns in China mean that the government is not very happy about people practicing religion. They want everyone to follow their rules, and they don't want anyone trying to follow the rules of other people or gods.

Sometimes they have campaigns, which is like when your parents tell you to clean your room – they tell everyone that they must stop practicing religion and follow their rules. They try to take away religious symbols and stop people from going to religious places.

The Chinese government says that religion makes people believe in ideas that are against what they think is right, and that it's a distraction from the government's ideas. They tell everyone that they want people to believe in the government's ideas and follow their rules, so they want everyone to stop focusing so much on their religion.

But some people don't agree with the government and still practice their religion in secret. The government doesn't like this and sometimes punishes these people. It's like when a teacher punishes a student for not following the rules in class.
