ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Apple scruffs

Apple scruffs were a group of dedicated fans who used to hang around outside Apple HQ and Abbey Road Studios back in the 1960s and 1970s. They would wait for hours just to catch a glimpse of the famous Beatles or any other musicians or stars who would happen to be in the building. The name "apple scruffs" actually comes from the fact that they would often wear old and scruffy clothes while waiting outside the studios.

These fans were very passionate about the Beatles and their music, and their dedication paid off when they were sometimes invited inside the building to meet the fab four. Some of the apple scruffs were even recognized by the band and became friends with them, often getting free tickets to their concerts or invited to special events.

While the name may sound a bit silly, the apple scruffs were actually a very important part of Beatles history, and they helped to demonstrate how passionate and dedicated their fans truly were. Even today, many fans continue to follow in their footsteps, camping outside venues for hours just to catch a glimpse of their favorite artists!
