ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Approval Voting

Approval voting is like giving gold stars to things you like. When you vote, you get to say which candidates you like or approve of by putting a gold star next to their name. You can put gold stars next to as many candidates as you want. After everyone has voted, the candidate with the most gold stars wins!

For example, let's say there are three candidates running for class president: Sarah, Emma, and Jack. You are given a ballot with their names on it, and you also get a sheet of stickers with gold stars. You can put gold stars next to the name of one, two, or all three candidates depending on who you like.

If you put a gold star next to Sarah and Emma, they both get one gold star. If you only put a gold star next to Jack, he gets one gold star. The candidate with the most gold stars at the end of the voting wins the election.

Approval voting is a way for everyone's voice to be heard and for the winner to be the candidate that the most people like at the end of the day. Plus, it's a simple and easy way to vote!
