ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Approximation property

The approximation property is like when you try to make something round by drawing small lines around it. You know that it's not perfectly round, but it's pretty close. This is what happens with numbers too! If you start with a really big number, like 345.675468, you can make it easier to understand by rounding it to 346. This new number is an approximation of the first one. It's not exactly the same, but it's close enough that we can use it for most things. The approximation property is when we use these simpler numbers to help us understand more complicated ones.
