ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Araf (Islam)

In Islam, Araf is a place where people go after they die to wait for the Day of Judgment. Araf is like a waiting room where people wait for their final judgment. The Quran says that people will be divided into three groups on the Day of Judgment: the righteous, the unrighteous, and the people of Araf.

The people of Araf are those who were not necessarily bad or evil in their life, but they were not righteous either. They did some good deeds but also did some bad deeds. So they are in a state of uncertainty and waiting in Araf to see where they will end up.

In Araf, people will be able to see and hear what is happening in heaven or hell. They will feel regret for their mistakes but also have hope for forgiveness and mercy. It is believed that if people repent sincerely during their lifetime, they may be saved from being stuck in Araf.

Overall, Araf is a place of contemplation, reflection, and purification before the Day of Judgment. It is an important concept in Islam that reminds people to strive for righteousness and to seek forgiveness for their mistakes.
