ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Arden Pope

Arden Pope is a scientist who studies air pollution, which is like smelly invisible dirt that we breathe in when we are outside. Air pollution can make people sick, like causing coughing or trouble breathing.

Arden Pope wanted to find out how bad air pollution really is for people's health. To do this, he looked at different groups of people who live in different places with different levels of air pollution. He compared how healthy they were and whether they got sick more often.

He found out that people who live in places with more air pollution are more likely to get sick. This is because air pollution has tiny particles in it that can get inside our lungs and cause harm.

Now, people who make rules to protect our health pay attention to Arden Pope's research to make sure we don't breathe too much dirty air.
