In 2007, the adults in Argentina got to vote for a new leader called the president. The person who was currently the president was named Nestor Kirchner, but he couldn't run again because he had already been the president for four years. So, different people from different groups called political parties had to try to get enough votes to become the new president.
There were a few different political parties in Argentina that wanted to be in charge, but the two biggest ones were called the Front for Victory and the Radical Civic Union. The Front for Victory was the one that Nestor Kirchner belonged to, and they wanted another person from their party named Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner (who was Nestor's wife!) to be the new president. The Radical Civic Union wanted someone named Julio Cobos to be the president instead.
When voting day came, all the grown-ups who wanted to vote went to special places called polling stations. They each got a piece of paper with the names of all the people who wanted to be president on it, and they had to choose the name of the person they wanted to be the new leader. The votes were counted up, and in the end, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner from the Front for Victory party got the most votes!
This meant that she became the new president of Argentina. She was the first woman in the history of Argentina to be the president, which was a really big deal! People were either really happy or really upset depending on who they wanted to win, but there was a lot of excitement and interest in the outcome of the election.
