Arrest quota

Okay kiddo, let’s talk about something called an “arrest quota.”

You know how sometimes grown-ups have goals they have to meet at their jobs? Like a certain amount of sales they have to make or things they have to accomplish? Well, sometimes police departments have goals or targets they have to meet too.

An “arrest quota” is when police officers are required to make a certain number of arrests within a certain time period, like a month or a year.

Now, this might sound like a good thing, right? After all, police officers are supposed to catch bad guys and keep us safe. But some people worry that when police officers have a quota to meet, they might start arresting people who haven’t actually done anything wrong, just to meet their numbers.

This can cause problems because it means that innocent people might get arrested, which isn’t fair or right. It’s also not good for the trust people have in the police department.

So, while it might seem like a good idea to have a certain number of arrests to make sure the police are doing their job, it’s important to make sure they’re still doing it properly and not just making up arrests to meet a quota.
