Arrowslit

Arrowslits are tall and narrow holes in the walls of a castle or fortress. They are sometimes called "embrasures." Imagine a little window in the wall that is only big enough to poke a stick or a bow out of it for shooting arrows or throwing rocks.

Arrowslits are important because they allow the people inside the castle or fortress to defend themselves while staying safe from attackers. They can shoot their arrows from behind the arrowslit, but the attackers can't shoot back at them easily because the holes are so small.

Arrowslits were very important during medieval times when castles and fortresses were used for protection. But nowadays, you might see arrowslits at historical sites or in movies because they remind us of what life was like a long, long time ago.
