ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Art student scam

Okay kiddo, so have you heard of people pretending to be something they're not? Well, unfortunately, there are some people out there who pretend to be art students when they're actually scam artists.

You see, some of these bad guys will claim to be art students who are really talented and want to sell their artwork to make a little extra money. They'll go around showing people their art and talking about how they're struggling to pay for school, but they need to make some money so they can keep pursuing their dreams.

Now, this might sound harmless enough at first, but the problem is that these scam artists are often asking people for a lot of money for their "art." They might say things like "this painting is worth $10,000" or "I need $5,000 to pay for my tuition." And sadly, there are some people who fall for this trick and give the scam artists the money they're asking for.

But here's the thing, kiddo. These scam artists usually aren't even art students at all! They're just pretending to be so they can get people to give them money. And the worst part is that their artwork is often terrible and not worth anything close to the amount they're asking for.

So the lesson here, kiddo, is that you should always be careful when someone comes up to you claiming to be an art student and asking for money. Make sure you ask to see their student ID or some other proof that they're really a student. And most importantly, don't give them any money unless you're absolutely sure that their artwork is worth it!
