Hey there little buddy! Today we are going to learn about arthropod eyes. Arthropods are creatures like insects and spiders that have a hard outer shell and jointed legs.
Now, unlike you and me who have two eyes, arthropods can have a lot of eyes- sometimes even hundreds! Their eyes are called compound eyes because they are made up of lots of tiny lenses.
Each of these tiny lenses sees a small part of the world. This means that arthropods can see things that are very far away and also things that are very close up. But because each tiny lens only sees a small part, arthropods don't see very clearly. It's like looking through a bunch of tiny holes instead of one big window.
Arthropods also see colors differently than we do. They can't see all of the colors that we can see, but they can see colors that we can't. Isn't that neat?
So there you have it- arthropod eyes are made up of lots of tiny lenses, which means they can see things far away and close up, but not very clearly. And they see colors differently than we do!
