ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Arthur L. Horwich

Arthur L. Horwich is a very smart man who studies things that are too small to see with our eyes. He is really curious about how our bodies work and how they can sometimes get sick.

One thing that Arthur is particularly interested in is something called "proteins." Proteins are little machines inside our bodies that do lots of important jobs. For example, they help us digest our food, they make our muscles strong, and they even help our blood carry oxygen all around our body.

Now, sometimes proteins don't work the way they are supposed to. They might get damaged or they might not be built correctly in the first place. When this happens, it can make us sick. For example, some diseases like Alzheimer's and Huntington's are caused by problems with proteins.

Arthur L. Horwich spends his days trying to figure out how proteins work, how they sometimes go wrong, and what we can do to fix them when they do. He wants to help keep us all healthy and strong!
