ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Assumption of Mary

Okay kiddo, so the Assumption of Mary is when we believe that at the end of her life, Mary (who is the mother of Jesus) was taken up to heaven by God.

You know how sometimes we see things happening in movies or books, but we don't really know what happens after the screen goes dark or the book ends? Well, Mary's story is a little like that - we don't know exactly how her life ended.

But lots of people in our faith believe that Mary was so special and so loved by God that he didn't want her to suffer through dying like most people do. Instead, he took her straight up to heaven to be with him.

It's kind of like if you finish a really good book and you imagine what happens next in your head - except the Assumption of Mary is something that all of our faith imagines together. And we believe that it really happened because God is all-powerful and can do anything he wants, even miracles like this one.
