Assyrian art

Assyrian art is a very old kind of art. It comes from a place called Assyria which was in the Middle East a long time ago. Many years ago, people who lived in Assyria used to make beautiful things like sculptures and carvings. They also used to make drawings and paintings on the walls of their buildings.

The Assyrians made these art pieces for many different reasons. Some people made them to honor their gods and goddesses. Others made them to show important people what they looked like or to tell stories about things that happened in their community.

One special kind of Assyrian art is called relief art. Relief art is when you take a piece of stone or wood and carve it so that some parts stick out and others are flat. It's like making a picture that is part of the stone or wood. The Assyrians were really good at making these kinds of art pieces.

Another kind of Assyrian art is called cylinder seals. These are small, round cylinders that have designs carved into them. People could roll them over wax or clay to make beautiful designs. This was like stamping a pattern onto something. Sometimes, the designs on the cylinder seals told stories or gave important information.

Overall, Assyrian art is really important to learning about the past and how things looked a long time ago. People can still see some of these beautiful art pieces today in museums around the world.
