Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

Do you remember those really cool books and movies about Pippi Longstocking and Ronja the Robber's Daughter? The lady who wrote those stories is named Astrid Lindgren. She was a very famous author from Sweden, and she wrote a lot of books that were loved by millions of people all around the world.

After she passed away, a bunch of people wanted to make sure that her legacy lived on, and that people would always remember how much joy and happiness her stories brought. So they created something called the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.

This award is given out every year to someone who has done something really great for children's literature. It can be an author, an illustrator, or even someone who works really hard to promote reading and literacy among young people. Basically, they want to honor someone who is carrying on Astrid Lindgren's mission of making the world a better place through wonderful stories.

So even though Astrid Lindgren isn't with us anymore, her ideas and her spirit live on through this award, and lots of amazing people are continuing to spread the joy of reading and storytelling to children all over the world.
