ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

At-large

When people vote for someone to be on a team or a group, sometimes they have to choose people from different places. This is called "at-large." It's like picking someone from all over the place instead of just one place.

For example, imagine if all the kids on the soccer team could only be from one neighborhood. That wouldn't be fair because there might be really good soccer players in other neighborhoods too! So instead, they open it up to all the kids in the whole town. That way, they can pick the BEST players from all over town, not just one neighborhood.

When we say that someone is on the team "at-large," it means they were picked from all over the place, not just one small area. This helps make sure that the best people are picked, no matter where they come from.
