ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Atacama Giant

Okay kiddo, so you know how sometimes you look up at the sky at night and you see lots of bright stars? Well, a long, long time ago, people in Chile (a country far away from here) also looked up at the sky and noticed something really interesting.

They saw that one group of stars looked like a big llama, which is an animal kinda like a camel. And they noticed that there was a really big, tall mountain nearby where the stars looked like they were hanging out.

So the people in Chile decided to make something special to honor this big mountain and the stars that looked like a llama. They made a huge picture out of rocks, called a geoglyph, on the side of the mountain. It was so big that you could only see it from way up in the sky!

They made the picture look like a really big llama, with legs and a head and everything, and it was called the Atacama Giant. It's over 390 feet tall, which is about as tall as a 30-story building!

The Atacama Giant has been up there for thousands of years, and it's still there today. People from all over the world go to see it, and it's become really famous.

So if you ever go to Chile and look up in the sky at night, you might be able to see the Atacama Giant's stars, and if you're really lucky, you might even get to see the giant llama picture on the mountain!
