Athens Charter (Preservation)

Okay, kiddo, have you ever seen an old building, like a really old one that looks different from the buildings around it? Well, sometimes people want to keep those old buildings from being destroyed because they’re important to history and culture.

That’s where the Athens Charter comes in. It’s like a set of rules from a long time ago that tells people how to preserve those old buildings. It was written back in 1931, when lots of old buildings were being destroyed because people wanted to build new ones instead.

Basically, the Athens Charter says that instead of tearing down old buildings, we should try to find ways to make them useful again. Like, maybe we could turn an old church into a museum, or a factory into an apartment building.

The Charter says we should be careful not to change the original design of the building too much, so people can still see what it used to look like. We should also think about how the building fits into the surrounding area and try not to make it look out of place.

So, the Athens Charter is like a guidebook on how to take care of old buildings so that we can learn from them and enjoy them for many more years to come!
