Okay kiddo, do you know what a prison is? It's a place where people go if they break the law, as a punishment. And Attica was a prison in New York where there was a really big riot in 1971.
The people who were in prison there were really unhappy, because they felt like they were being treated unfairly. They didn't have access to good healthcare or education, and they were being punished really harshly for small things, like not being able to have long hair.
So they decided to protest and try to make things better. But instead of listening to them and trying to work things out, the people in charge of the prison got angry and started fighting back really hard. The prisoners had to defend themselves with whatever they could find, like broken pieces of furniture or pipes.
The riot went on for four days, and a lot of people were hurt or killed. In the end, the authorities took back control of the prison, but not before things got really bad.
The Attica prison riots showed that people who are in prison deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and that sometimes they have to fight for their rights. It also showed that sometimes authority figures can be unfair and cruel, and that we should always try to listen to each other and work together to solve problems.
