Aum Shinrikyo

Aum Shinrikyo is a religious group from Japan. It was started in 1984 by Shoko Asahara. The group is known for carrying out a terrorist attack in 1995 in Tokyo, Japan, where several people were poisoned by a poisonous gas called sarin. The attack killed 13 people and injured more than 5,000. The members of Aum Shinrikyo believed that these actions would help bring about the end of the world and create a new one with them in charge. They are now a banned organization and their members have been arrested and imprisoned.
