ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Australian Aboriginal identity

Okay kiddo, so you know that there are different types of people in the world, right? In Australia, there are some people who are called Aboriginals, who have a special identity because they have been living in Australia for a really long time, much longer than anyone else. They have their own cultures, languages, stories and ways of living.

Now imagine if you have a special toy that your family has had for generations. You would want to take good care of it, right? It's the same for Aboriginal identity. They want to take care of their own special way of living and make sure it doesn't get lost.

But sometimes other people who live in Australia don't understand all of the special things that make up Aboriginal identity, and they might not treat Aboriginal people very well. This can make it hard for Aboriginal people to keep their identity strong and keep passing it down to their children and grandchildren.

So, people are working to make sure that everyone in Australia respects and understands Aboriginal identity, so that it can be passed down for many more generations to come!
