Australian Bicentenary

Okay kiddo, do you know what a birthday is? It's when we celebrate someone or something turning a certain age. Well, the Australian Bicentenary is like a big birthday party for Australia.

You see, Australia is a big country, and it's been around for a really long time. But in 1988, it had been exactly 200 years since the first European settlers came to Australia and started living there.

So, the people in charge of Australia thought it would be a good idea to have a big celebration to mark this special occasion. They called it the Australian Bicentenary, which is just a fancy way of saying "200th birthday party for Australia."

There were lots of different things going on during the bicentenary. There were big parades, parties, and festivals all over the country. People sang songs, did special dances, and wore special clothes to show how much they loved Australia.

There were also some important events happening during the bicentenary. For example, they opened a big new building in Canberra, which is the capital city of Australia. They also had a big fireworks show that lit up the sky over Sydney Harbour.

Overall, the Australian Bicentenary was just a really fun and exciting time for everyone in Australia. It was a chance for people to come together and celebrate their country and all the amazing things that make it special.
